CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — RDR Energy Resources’ Plumbing Services Division donated labor this week on a project to replace old plumbing in the Clarksburg Fire Department’s Main Station.

“We’ve got 100-year-old pipes, and these guys are doing exactly what Public Works instructed them to do,” Clarksburg Fire Chief Steve Pulice said Wednesday. “It looks like it’s going to be a welcome relief for us. It’ll service us for a long time to come.”

Kurtis Troy, RDR Energy Resources’ plumbing superintendent, said the company started the Plumbing Services Division six months ago, and “everything has been going really well.”

“I mean, we’re just growing,” Troy said. “And to be honest, I think that we figured out that at the end of the day, this is West Virginia, the degree of separation is one. And if you do good work and you just treat people fair and even explain to them what’s going on, quality always has a market. We don’t do anything special.

“And this was a perfect storm: The fire department called, and I thought, ‘What a good thing. Everything’s going good, life is good for all of us, our kids, everybody’s happy, healthy. Why don’t we give one back to the fire department? You know, the guys who are always helping out everybody else.”

The steel and iron pipes were encased in the brick of the fire station, which was dedicated in 1928, Pulice said.

Somewhere in the wall, part of that old pipe broke; that meant water mixed with sewage leaked out onto the basement floor each time a firefighter showered, Pulice said.

The fire department will cover the cost of the “brand new Schedule 40 PVC,” Pulice said.

RDR Energy Resources’ bid on the parts “came in around $2,500. And they expect to come in at or near that. They’re pretty comfortable with that bid.”

Pulice added that the RDR Energy Resources crew worked all three days this week on a rented scissor lift. That likely would have cost $1,000 for rental and for transportation to the station in downtown Clarksburg.

It probably would have cost $8,000 to $10,000 if the city had to pay for labor and rental of the lift, Pulice said.

The Fire Department did take bids, but opted for RDR Energy Resources, he added.

Pulice said the project would have tied up Clarksburg Public Works crews for too long at once. The job had to be worked through to completion once it was started due to firefighting logistics, the chief indicated.

Hats off to RDR. What a bunch of awesome plumbers. Top notch work from the best plumbing company in the area! Donating there time for first responders. Just another of many examples of why these guys are growing while other area companies struggle. A company that has figured out when you take care of your guys everything else falls in place. Congratulations to Kurtis and the crew!
