Eagle Theatre's “Xanadu” will offer a satirical adaptation of the 1980 cult classic film starring Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John. This musical, written by Douglas Carter Beane, features the music of Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and will serve as a triumphant, ridiculous return to live performance for the company.

Xanadu tells a story of forbidden love, chaos, and roller disco that travels from Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, Calif., faster than you can say “E-e-vil Woman.” When the Muses stumble across a struggling young artist, one of them volunteers to go down to earth as his guide, only to find herself doing the only two things forbidden to the Muses: creating her own art, and falling in love! Their journey to find creative and romantic fulfillment features a thrilling mix of songs by ELO, including “I’m Alive,” “Strange Magic,” “All Over The World” and “Evil Woman.”

Burlington County will host its 17th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade at 1 p.m. March 5. The parade will starts at Fairgrounds Plaza, travel along High Street, and end at the corner of Washington and High streets in Mount Holly.

About 70 groups including Pipe Bands, Irish Bands, Mummers, Irish Dancers, Irish groups and more will participate in this year’s parade.

The Mt. Holly St. Patrick’s 5K race will precede the parade at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $35. The event features awards for all age groups, T-shirts, beer and other giveaways.

Following the parade, an Irish Music Festival will be held in a heated tent behind the reviewing stand at the corner of Washington and High streets. The festival will feature Irish bands, bag pipers, Irish dancers, food and Irish vendors, beer and wine, 50-50 tickets and more.

A new series of paintings by Sydnéi SmithJordan will be on display for Women’s History Month at the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey. The show, “Lady Sings the Blues: Sung and Unsung,” portrays African American women of historic note painted in the artist’s signature style.

SmithJordan describes her artistic style as “Pop Fusion.” Her paintings incorporate a mix of graphics, abstraction and collage executed in traditional media.

Ralph Hunter, president and founder of the museum, says of the artist, “she has the ability to tell a story in her work.” He encourages the public to visit the museum and experience her work up close.

The exhibit runs through April 30 and an artist reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. March 11 at the museum in the Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University at 2200 Fairmount Ave., in Atlantic City.

The reception will offer the added attractions of literature and music to the Second Friday events.

Author Kyle Ruffin, who was featured in the museum’s 2019 exhibit "Caregivers of Color," will sign copies of her book, “In Stroke’s Shadow: My Caregiver Story.” Ruffin’s memoir movingly recounts the life changing experience of caring for her mother after she suffered a series of debilitating strokes.

Also, Tony Day and the Across the Globe Music Group will provide swinging, straight-ahead music during the reception.

Edelman Planetarium’s laser light shows combine music from favorite bands with stunning and immersive laser imagery.

“Laser Queen” was inspired by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Queen, and combines their hit songs including “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Somebody to Love” and more, with intense laser programming.

Broadway Theatre of Pitman will present “The Sound of Music” at various times from March 4 to 27.

“The Sound of Music” is a heartwarming story, featuring the songs of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It is based on the real-life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II.

Maria, the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children, where she brings a new love of life and music into the home.

The story then follows the family as they flee from Austria to Switzerland to avoid the Nazis.

The Philly Pops rocks out to the hits of The Beatles with special guest Echo Kid at the Independence Visitor Center on March 5, 2022 at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, on the South Terrace at the Independence Visitor Center.

Local rock group Echo Kid will perform the set list from the The Beatles’ 1969 rooftop concert in its original order, followed by more from the Let It Be album. 

The original rooftop concert took place in January 1969, while The Beatles were recording Let It Be. The pop-up was intended to be a publicity stunt, but it turned out to be the last time The Beatles performed together publicly. It was the only time songs from Let It Be were performed live by the band.

For the second set, Echo Kid will perform a selection of the Fab Four’s greatest hits for a Beatles dance party. The event will feature light refreshments and the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a pair of tickets to POPS Rocks Let it Be on March 11. 

As part of the Independence Visitor Center and Independence National Historical Park’s health and safety guidelines, all guests are required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
