STAMFORD, CT — Have you ever wanted to take a selfie with a giraffe or a monkey? How about with a pair of penguins or even a T-Rex?

Now you can, thanks to Stamford Downtown's 29th annual outdoor sculpture exhibit.

From now through September, various animal topiaries will be on display throughout the downtown area. The "HedgeFun" exhibit features 16 topiaries that are sponsored by a business or organization.

The animals can light up at night thanks to solar lights. It took 3,800 feet of round rod steel, 260 square feet of square tubing, 1,312 square feet of boxwood, 4,896 square feet of solar lights and 18,000 zip ties to construct the topiaries.

The exhibit was produced by the Stamford Downtown Special Service District, which is responsible for managing and promoting Stamford Downtown.

"HedgeFun in Stamford Downtown creates great moments of surprise throughout the Downtown as you round a corner to come face to face with a 12-foot tall topiary elephant or a sequence of flying pigs," DSSD President David Kooris told Patch. "Stamford Downtown knew these would complement our urban environment well and serve to both enhance the daily experience of residents and workers as well as draw regional tourists to our city."

When the exhibit concludes, the topiaries will be sold and a portion of the proceeds will be used to plant trees in downtown Stamford.
