South Road in southern Trigg County remains closed just south of Johnson Hollow Road to allow repairs to a sinkhole that extended under the roadway and damaged a cross drain.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says there is no practical detour for this section of South Road and a crew has expedited work at the site.

Progress Report on KY 139/South Road Sinkhole Repair in Trigg CountyThe KYTC Trigg County Highway Maintenance Crew is making good progress on repairs to a sinkhole along KY 139/South Road in southern Trigg County.KY 139/South Road is closed at mile point 3.9 immediately south of the Johnson Hollow Road intersection. There is no practical detour for this site, so the crew has tried to expedite the work.When they excavated the sinkhole at the edge of the roadway they found it extended under the pavement and down about 25 feet. It had taken out a couple of sections of an old concrete cross drain. The hole was backfilled with rock and the cross drain was replaced.The crew spent Wednesday backfilling the road base to prepare to put a cap on the excavation. They think they are on track to be able to reopen the roadway sometime Friday.KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely notice when the roadway is reopened to traffic.
