CHICO, Calif. - Chico police responded to 1000 Columbus Avenue on the report that Orlando Robinson, 38, was violating a domestic violence restraining order, he was arrested after officers fired a bean bag round at Robinson to stop his aggressive actions towards officers, police said.

Robinson, according to the Chico Police Department, was being aggressive, violating a restraining order, making “suicide by cop” statements and attempting to enter an apartment that did not belong to him.

Officers found Robinson walking in the middle of Columbus Avenue holding a black metal pipe.

AS officers attempted to deescalate the situation Robinson made threatening gestures with the metal pipe and took a swinging stance as if to hit the patrol sergeant.

Robinson came within several feet of the sergeant before a taser was deployed.

The Chico Police Department said the taser had no effect on Robinson and he began walking away still making threats of violence.

A taser was deployed a second time and Robinson was incapacitated for several seconds and fell to the ground.

Robinson then rose to his feet, bragging about how the taser did not have the desired effect, the metal pipe was still in close proximity to Robinson.

Patrol officers used a less lethal 12-gauge bean bag round that hit Robinson in the upper body, stopping his aggressive actions. Robinson was then safely taken into custody without further incident.

No officers were hurt during the incident and Robinson received superficial wounds.

He is being treated at a hospital. Afterwards he will be booked into the Butte County Jail on the charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, obstructing and delaying arrest and violating a restraining order.
